Abstract: Pervious concrete is a specialized type of concrete that is produced by reducing or completely eliminating sand from the conventional concrete mix. In recent years, its use as a pavement material for low-traffic roads and parking areas has gained significant attention due to its environmentally friendly and functional benefits. It helps mitigate urban flooding and serves as an effective solution to reduce the strain on municipal drainage systems. This paper reviews the key properties of pervious concrete, the factors influencing its performance. Additionally, it explores methods to enhance its durability and lifespan Furthermore, this study discusses critical parameters such as the water-to-cement ratio, aggregate characteristics, admixtures, compaction methods, and curing techniques that influence the overall performance of pervious concrete. There remains a vast scope for future research to identify advanced materials that can further improve its properties, making it a more sustainable and durable option for high-speed and high-traffic roadways in the future.
