Behavioural analysis of grouped geogrid-encased stone columns under monotonic loading
Author(s): Shaaban Kezilahabi
Abstract: This study investigates the behavior of grouped geogrid-encased stone columns (GESC) under monotonic loading in soft clayey soils. The research focuses on load transfer mechanisms, settlement reduction, and stress distribution patterns within the column group. Laboratory-scale experiments were conducted on geogrid-encased stone columns arranged in a group configuration. The influence of geogrid stiffness, column spacing, and the encasement height was analyzed to understand their effects on load-bearing capacity and settlement behavior. Results indicate that geogrid encasement significantly improves the load-bearing capacity and reduces settlement by enhancing lateral confinement and load distribution within the group. The study provides valuable insights into the design and application of GESC systems for improving soft ground conditions.
