Author(s): Dr. Nirajan Adhikari
Abstract: The chemical industry in Nepal is gradually shifting towards sustainable operations, driven by the need to reduce environmental impact and comply with emerging environmental standards. This paper examines the costs and benefits of retrofitting chemical plants in Nepal through a focused study of key facilities, including Nepal Chemical and Fertilizers Limited (NCFL), Himalayan Chemicals Pvt. Ltd., and Kathmandu Paints and Chemicals. A survey of 50 industry professionals evaluated the investment costs, operational savings, and environmental benefits of retrofitting projects. Using statistical tools like regression analysis and cost-benefit ratios, the study highlights substantial energy savings, improved resource efficiency, and reduced emissions. Recommendations for sustainable retrofitting tailored to Nepal's industrial landscape are provided.
