Accurate land parcel mapping in urban areas requires reliable instruments capable of delivering sub-centimeter precision despite environmental challenges such as reflections, obstructions, and dynamic movement. The Topcon GPT-3005 Total Station integrates reflectorless EDM and high-precision angular measurement, making it highly suitable for complex survey environments. This study evaluates the instrument's real-world accuracy for urban land parcel mapping. Forty parcel corner points were surveyed using both GNSS RTK (Leica GS18 T) as reference control and the Topcon GPT-3005 under variable urban conditions in Kolkata, India. Distance and angular errors were analyzed using Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), standard deviation, and repeatability tests. Results indicate mean horizontal and vertical deviations of 6.2 mm and 8.7 mm, respectively, under reflective urban conditions. Despite minor deviations caused by multipath reflections, the Topcon GPT-3005 proves to be a highly reliable tool for cadastral mapping within dense urban cores when appropriate operational protocols are applied.
