Evaluation of pavement using non-destructive techniques and its financial analysis

Abstract: Pavement performance assessment is essential for sustainable infrastructure maintenance. The durability and serviceability of asphalt pavements are critically dependent on both surface functionality and substructure integrity. This study presents an integrated framework for evaluating asphalt pavements using non-destructive testing (NDT). Functional evaluation is conducted using Network Survey Vehicle (NSV) using Laser Crack Measurement System (LCMS 2.0) based data acquisition to quantify surface distress and calculates the Pavement Condition Index (PCI). PCI rating further guides for structural evaluation. Structural evaluation is carried out using Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), and back-calculated moduli from KGPBACK software are used to estimate critical strains in IITPAVE software. And further remaining pavement life is estimated for design traffic loading. For sections failing, overlay thickness is designed. A financial analysis is also conducted, and this methodology enables accurate condition assessment, rational overlay design, and cost-effective pavement maintenance.
