Investigating hybrid fiber reinforced high-strength concrete for enhanced structural performance
Author(s): ER Abhishek Arya and Prince Beri
Abstract: This research investigates the performance enhancement of high-strength concrete through the incorporation of hybrid fibers comprising steel, coir, and palm. A total of eight concrete mixes, including one control and seven hybrid variations, were designed using M50 grade concrete. The study focused on assessing the mechanical strengths—compressive, split tensile, and flexural—as well as the structural performance of reinforced concrete beams under static loading. Results indicated that hybrid fiber combinations significantly outperformed both mono-fiber and control mixes. Among all, the mix containing 0.5% steel, 0.25% coir, and 0.25% palm fiber exhibited the highest improvement across all parameters. Structural testing of RC beams revealed superior load-displacement behavior, increased flexural toughness, and enhanced ductility in hybrid fiber mixes.
