Abstract: Urban green spaces, such as parks and forests, help mitigate air pollution by absorbing pollutants like particulate matter and nitrogen oxides. This paper reviews studies and reports on the effectiveness of these green spaces in improving air quality and examines their integration into urban planning. While beneficial, challenges such as space constraints and seasonal variability must be addressed for effective implementation in cities. Introduction: Urbanization has increased air pollution, prompting the need for green spaces to improve air quality. Policies like India’s NCAP and China’s “War on Pollution” emphasize green spaces as vital tools in pollution reduction. Discussion: Studies show that urban green spaces reduce air pollutants, especially particulate matter, acting as natural air filters. The effectiveness of green spaces depends on factors like vegetation type and density, with successful examples seen in cities like Beijing and New York. Challenges: Space limitations, seasonal variations, and integration with existing infrastructure are key challenges in expanding green spaces in urban areas. Conclusion: Urban green spaces are effective in mitigating air pollution, but their success depends on careful planning, maintenance, and integration with other solutions to ensure long-term benefits.
