Abstract: Study was carried out at three different sampling locations namely Palla, Delhi Railway Bridge and Okhla Barrage Delhi during the months of October 2024 in order to assess the water quality of the river Yamuna for drinking purpose. Water Quality parameters such as Temperature, pH, EC, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), turbidity, TDS, DO, BOD and COD were observed & analyzed and results compared with Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) limits for drinking water. The water quality parameters temperature, pH, Electrical conductivity (EC), Turbidity, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Dissolved Oxygen(DO), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) values at the three sampling sites namely 1)Palla 2) Delhi Railway Bridge3) Okhla Barrage Delhi were observed in the range of 25-29.2 °C, 7.60-8.2, 436-1117µS/cm, 60-151NTU, 264-685 mg/l, 0-5.8 mg/l, 2.08-27.48 mg/l, 20-55 mg/l respectively. The observed water quality parameters of Yamuna river at Palla shows that water can be used for drinking purpose after some traditional treatment of water, however water quality observed parameter at Delhi Railway Bridge and Okhla Barrage Delhi shows that the water is unsafe for drinking purposes.
